Experienced agribusiness leader, Ben Dwyer, has been voted in as the new Director representing the western region on the Cattle Australia (CA) Board.
CA announced the results of its Board and Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) elections at today’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dalby, Qld.
Held as part of the organisation’s flagship industry event and conference, Cattle Connect 2025, beef producers from across the country participated in the CA AGM both in-person and online.
CA Chief Executive, Will Evans, said the Board and RCC elections, and the nation-wide participation in the AGM, were key features of the democratic structure that ensured CA could act as a powerful voice for all cattle producers.
“As the national peak body for the cattle industry, this engagement and participation is critical to confirming our areas of policy priority and putting in place a strong and future-focused leadership group,” Mr Evans said.
Three Board Director positions were up for election, one each from the Northern, Southern and Western regions, which had been held by Bryce Camm, Elke Cleverdon and James Bowie respectively.
Bryce Camm and Elke Cleverdon return for another term as Directors, while in the west James Bowie stood down from the Board, resulting in Mr Dwyer’s election.
“As energetic contributors to CA’s direction, it’s great for the industry to again have Bryce and Elke serving on the Board, and it’s a privilege to have a leader of the experience of Ben Dwyer joining the team,” Mr Evans said.
“Special thanks to James Bowie for his service to CA and, in particular, to the Western Australian beef industry over the past three years.”
Mr Dwyer, who is the Chief Operating Officer for Agribusiness & Livestock Procurement at Harvest Road, said his experience in the cattle industry at a national level would assist him in his role on the CA Board in identifying best practices and innovations that could benefit cattle operations both in Western Australia and across the country.
“Maintaining a strong focus on commercial outcomes, while balancing environmental stewardship and community expectations, are high priorities,” Mr Dwyer said.
In the RCC elections one region was contested, that of sub-region two in Northern NSW which was won by prominent Angus breeder and Augus Australia Board member, Erica Halliday. She replaces Cye Travers who did not stand for re-election.
Similarly, incumbent representatives for regions one and six, Angus Whyte and Richard Sutton, did not stand for re-election. Those sub-regions are now represented by Nathan Morris and Thomas Youl respectively.
In the other RCC regions due for election – sub regions 3, 4, 5 and 11 – Mac McArthur, Loretta Carroll, David Allen and Ben Hewitt all return for another term.
“Thank you to Cye, Angus and Richard for their time and vital contributions to the RCC, and the team at CA is looking forward to working with Erica, Nathan and Thomas over the year ahead.”
