Comments attributable to Cattle Australia (CA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Chris Parker:
Cattle Australia welcomes the announcement negotiations on the Australia-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement have concluded.
Once the agreement enters into force, it will provide an important gateway for Australian exporters to diversify into the Middle East.
A market of around 58 million consumers, with a combined GDP of A$1.4 trillion, this is the most liberalising free trade agreement the UAE has agreed to, to date and Australia’s first FTA with the Middle East.
The beef industry will benefit greatly from the elimination of the five per cent tariff on frozen beef, and the opportunity for expanded access to consumers with demand for our world-leading product.
As a net exporter, new and diverse market access is integral to our industry’s success and ongoing resilience.
We thank and congratulate Trade Minister Don Farrell, the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, and Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry for their work in securing this trade agreement, and ongoing negotiations on other market access opportunities.
