Australian Good Meat’s branded schools education program provides a range of opportunities to bring ag education into the classroom with curriculum-linked teaching resources, the Smart Farming Virtual Classroom and the Paddock to Plate immersive tour.
The most recent instalment has produced a brand new suite of F-10 school resources that provides educators with the most comprehensive range of ‘ready-to-teach’ industry-led resources to date.
Working in collaboration with the Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA) the materials have been developed by teachers for teachers and utilised teacher-needs insights into their design to meet the needs of today’s educators. Pleasingly the resources represent our wider red meat industry operations with content educating students on:
- red meat production
- animal welfare and environmental management
- the supply chain
- marketing and advertising
- red meat nutrition
Over 170 materials are freely available and easily accessible for both teachers and students via an online search filter, with each year band work unit including a year band overview, six lesson plans and 24 student activities. Year band units of work cover:
- Visiting the farm
- Life on the farm
- From the paddock to the plate
- Managing Australian red meat
- Producing Australian red meat.
The range is supported with a series of teacher guidance videos to support teacher adoption, along with supplementary classroom materials with posters and paddock-to-plate card games.
